Biography

William Watson was a Liverpool-born painter celebrated for animal and landscape paintings of the Victorian period.

A pupil of Edwin Landseer and Rosa Bonheur, William Watson developed a refined approach to animal painting, combining close observation with strong draughtsmanship and atmospheric landscape settings.

Watson exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts between 1866 and 1872 and also showed work at Suffolk Street. His paintings are represented in important collections including the Walker Art Gallery and other notable public institutions.

Known for Victorian animal subjects and traditional British landscapes, William Watson remains sought after by collectors of 19th-century British painting and sporting art.
