Marco Grubacs, Italian (1839–1910) was a 19th-century painter known for his evocative depictions of Venice and its celebrated architectural landmarks. Associated with the Venetian tradition of veduta painting, Grubacs captured the distinctive character of the city through paintings featuring its historic waterways, grand palaces, iconic squares and picturesque urban landscapes.

His artistic subjects included the Grand Canal, St Mark’s Square, the Doge’s Palace and other recognisable Venetian landmarks. Through his paintings, Grubacs preserved the atmosphere and architectural splendour of Venice, offering a visual record of one of Europe’s most admired historic cities.

The son of Venetian painter Carlo Grubacs, Marco continued a family artistic tradition rooted in the representation of urban landscapes and architectural views. His work reflects the enduring appeal of Venetian painting during the 19th century, when artists continued to explore the relationship between architecture, water, light and everyday life.

Today, Marco Grubacs is remembered by collectors and enthusiasts of 19th-century European art for his Venetian cityscapes and paintings of historic Italian landmarks. His works remain of interest to those exploring the history of Venetian painting, traditional landscape art and the artistic heritage of Venice.
