Francesca Currie: Painting Light, Atmosphere and Emotional Resonance
Francesca Currie is an artist whose work bridges classical technique and contemporary spirit. She is a painter rooted in traditional skill yet free in exploration. Francesca has steadily built a reputation for artwork that evokes calm, light, beauty and contemplation, whether through portrait, still life, or landscape.
Much of Francesca’s career has been built on both commissioned and exhibited work. She has painted official portraits for figures such as The Budworths (owners of The Lady Magazine), Dr. John Inge (the Bishop of Worcester), and Frank Southam, the Swordbearer of Worcester.
Her skill in capturing character and likeness also led to her selection for Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year in 2021, where she had the opportunity to paint Sir Trevor McDonald — who chose her portrait as his favourite.
Portrait commissions remain an important part of Francesca’s practice, and she places great value on the collaborative process of working with sitters to capture not just likeness but personality and presence.
