Vincent Clare (1855–1930) was a British Victorian painter celebrated for his finely detailed still-life paintings of flowers, fruit and bird’s nests. Born in Birmingham and later based in Southgate, London, Clare belonged to the distinguished Clare family of artists, alongside his father George Clare and brother Oliver Clare.

Clare developed a distinctive approach to traditional still life, combining meticulous observation with a somewhat freer brushstroke and, at times, a softer pastel palette. His compositions frequently feature flowers, seasonal fruit and bird’s nests arranged against natural mossy-bank settings, creating intimate studies of colour, texture and the beauty of the natural world.

Although he lived in London for much of his life, Clare is recorded as exhibiting three works at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool between 1888 and 1897. His paintings remain sought after by collectors of Victorian art and British floral still life, with examples held in public collections and appearing regularly in the international art market.

Today, Vincent Clare is recognised for his accomplished Victorian still lifes, particularly his flower compositions and evocative paintings of fruit and bird’s nests.
