There are very few artists who are able to convey the power of the sea in quite the same way as the painter David James.
Coming from humble origins James began his career in London helped by his first patron a picture dealer who assisted with his education and with whom he lived for many years. It was in the north of England where his fascination with the sea began, travelling extensively James’s interest lay not with geographical location rather the changing light effects and motion of the sea itself. Often painting works in a drawn out landscape manner it is his paintings of the sea with no distractions that have gone on to become most sought after works. Timeless and breath taking in their observation James went on to exhibit at the Royal Academy and his works can be found in numerous public and private collections.
