Biography

Carl Heuser was born in Germany during 1827. Heuser specialised in portraiture, with his compositions portraying the inhabitants of the region in their local dress. The men, who were often farmers, were seen smoking meerschaum pipes. On the other hand, you would have the women in their elaborate formal dress and hair styles.

Carl Heuser’s artworks are characterised by their extraordinary detail. This captivating detail helped to tell the story of each life portrayed. He was able to encapsulate the essence and character of each subject. His subjects were often local farmers and foresters and their wives; men of some substance exemplified by their costumes.
