Artwork Description
Steve Winterburn’s initial inspiration for sculpting the Belted Galloway breed came from a visit to a game fair where he fell in love with their docile friendly nature, partnered with their incredibly cute appearance. Whilst at the fair Steve began talking to a breeder to help with the referencing phase and this relationship sparked a friendship which in time led to the commission of multiple Belted Galloway works.
Steve’s focus was to capture the power and assertiveness of a bull alongside the accuracy he brings to this particular style of his work. Combining these with the composition brings together the story of the piece and showcases a lovely example of this aesthetically pleasing breed of cattle as though it were a showing at a game fair.
This artwork is a lovely addition to any space, it commands a room well with the presence of its stance and draws in the audience with the masterful sculpting creating an engaging character and atmosphere.
Biography
As a long serving trustee and wildlife conservationist enthusiast, Steve has travelled the world gaining inspiration and knowledge about animals. He began expressing the inspiration through painting, but with an engineering background it wasn’t long before he taught himself to sculpt and then later launched his own family run studio and foundry in 2002. The business has now flourished and boasts more than 20 years of experience in delivering a huge number of challenging and varied commissions.
Steve is a world renowned sculptor and works with a number of well established names from the fine-art world, including: Halcyon Gallery, Carrs Silver, Monaco Fine Arts, Hickmet Fine Arts, Sotheby’s, Christies, LAPADA and BADA. Along the journey of working with precious metals Steve and his family have obtained the skills to work with silver and gold and have been granted their own British Hallmark. Sports fans may also be familiar with his flagship piece at Wembley Stadium: this spectacular bronze commissioned by the charity Rugby League Cares, features five legends of Rugby League which is now considered a Wembley landmark in its own right.
