Kay Boyce is a British figurative artist whose work is recognised for its sensitive portrayal of the female figure, expressive use of pastel and pencil, and fascination with movement, fabric and texture.

Born in Sheffield, Kay’s interest in drawing began in childhood. She would spend hours drawing on rolls of wallpaper, developing an early fascination with observing and interpreting the human figure. She later studied illustration at Wrexham College before beginning a career as a freelance illustrator.

Movement has been an important influence on Kay’s approach to the figure. Her training in ballet and contemporary dance has informed her understanding of gesture, balance and the way the body moves through space. This interest can be seen particularly in her studies of dancers and ballet-inspired subjects.

Her paintings and drawings have been exhibited in galleries and exhibitions across the UK, including venues in London, Manchester, Shrewsbury, Ludlow, Knutsford and Chester. Her work has also entered private collections in the UK, Europe and the United States.

Kay has additionally undertaken portrait work, including a project for the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) involving portraits of 23 actors and actresses. The completed work was assessed and approved by Sir Richard Attenborough. Her artwork has also been reproduced as limited-edition prints, bringing her figurative work to a wider audience.
