Debbie Morris is a landscape artist who primarily works in acrylic. Morris is based in the Cotswolds. Debbie Morris, born 1964, is a descendant of William Morris (1834-1896) Arts and Crafts textile designer, poet and novelist, and Jane Morris (1839-1914) Arts and Crafts embroiderer and artist’s model. Morris stated to us that she breathes art, it has always been in her blood.
Morris has always been involved with nature, reminiscing on her feelings over the ocean Morris explained how through paint she is able to translate her feelings, that she does not merely ‘just copy the view, but also deconstruct the whole view, concentrate on details of cloud formations, the lines and colours on pebbles, rocks, shells and seaweed’. Morris finds the act of being alone with nature, to view its beauty in remoteness allows her to fully immerse herself within her inspiration.
Morris likes to delve into works surrounding important places throughout her life. The social history aspect of this hugely inspires the outcome of these compositions. It is important for her to consider who lived in these places, who worked the land, the sea. One of the remarkable environments that often occurs in Morris work is Cornwall. Morris has exhibited work across the UK throughout her career, Cornwall being the first to grab her heart, she still exhibits here today.
