Cathy Lewis – Mercutio

Cathy Lewis, RA must surely be one of the foremost figurative sculptors at work in the UK today. A graduate of Glasgow School of Art, Falmouth School of Art and the University of the West of England, Cathy has built a reputation for producing exquisite and striking contemporary social commentaries through sculpture.

In Cathy’s own words, “Most of my work is concerned with ideas about culture, social history and identity. I often combine serval ideas in one piece, each influencing the outcome of the work. For me, art is as much about questions as answers.”

Cathy Lewis is a British contemporary artist whose artistic practice explores the expressive possibilities of figurative art, sculpture and mixed media. Her work forms part of a wider contemporary art landscape that brings together material exploration, creative expression and distinctive artistic perspectives.

With an interest in the relationship between form, material and visual storytelling, Cathy Lewis contributes to the diversity of contemporary British art. Her work has been featured in group exhibitions, including winning the sculpture prize at the Royal Academy in 2008 and the international exhibition Unbreakable – Ceramics Redefined in New York.
